Ecopsychoanalysis: Towards a Paradigm of Complexity
The paradigm of complexity seems to be a good candidate for a shift in the metapsychology of psychoanalysis. The holistic world-view of ecopsychoanalysis takes into account that human beings are part of a larger ecosystem with innumerable components in complex intra-individual neural-, as well as interpersonal and environmental networks interacting with one another. According to ecopsychoanalysis, related to dynamic systems theory, the future is not foreseeable and it is complex. Therefore chasing the ultimate truth by trying to find the causal components in explaining human behavior is doomed to fail.
