Body-oriented mentalizing
Body-oriented mentalizing (L-MBT) is a treatment method developed for patients with severe persistent physical complaints or somatic symptom disorder (SSD) and functional neurological disorders (FND) but can also be widely used in the treatment of patients where there is a disturbance in the relationship with the body. In a treatment with L-MBT, the patient's and therapist's bodily signals are explored in a mentalizing manner, with the aim of promoting the integration of bodily signals and inner experiences (thoughts, feelings, desires, needs). In this article L-MBT as a treatment method is described on the basis of a single case. The authors make a plea for involving the body in the consultation room.
