Dear Dr. Szasz,
I am writing to you about the questionnaire which you kindly sent me.1 I know that you are a very serious worker in the field of research as well as being a psycho-analytic colleague. I hope you will not mind that I have decided not to fill in this questionnaire. In my opinion it is not a good questionnaire. There is no way of
filling it in which would give an accurate picture of my practice or of my views as an analyst or a child psychiatrist.
I hold the opinion that this sort of questionnaire is dangerous because the definite answers expressed in numerical form will lead to the drawing of certain conclusions and I believe that no such conclusions can be drawn because of the fact that no-one's views or practice can be represented in this way.
I could give detailed criticisms but I am simply writing here to say that in my opinion I would be taking part in something false if I were to send in a filled-up form.
With good wishes, Yours sincerely,
