31st January 1963.
Dear Ronald:
It was good of you to send me a copy of your book, which I am glad to have. I shall read it and I expect I shall enjoy it.
In order to maintain the friendly feeling that I have towards you,
I am writing this letter critically. I want to say that it is not good your writing me a letter to say that I have had some influence on the relationship between paediatrics and child psychiatry in this country when in fact you scotomize me and my writings in the book. Your reference to my very immature early paper of 1934 would certainly not give a reader coming to this field the idea that I had started to have an influence on things somewhere later than that date and that I have written quite a lot which could easily have been referred to in your book. There are chapters in my Collected Papers which are quite relevant to your subject, and you could very easily have put this in to give readers the recommendation. I think I would mind being left out very much if I were to suppress this letter. Having written it, however, I feel the matter is closed and I am now free to enjoy the book as a positive contribution to the subject.
Every good wish, and success to the book,
Yours,
