Dear Professor,
You were so kind as to empower me to write to you regarding my summer stay in Berchtesgaden.1 Since I am also in an official position,2 I must be clear about the time of my departure in order to arrange for someone to represent me. For that reason I am free to request that you inform me by means of a postcard when I can avail myself of your permission to spend some time with you in Berchtesgaden. I intend to spend four weeks there, but I would consider myself fortunate if I could spend only a few hours in your company and will by no means be a burden to you. If I could be of assistance to you in some work or other, I would do so with pleasure.
