Dear colleague,
Many thanks for your clever work.1 A return mailing,2 which is as familiar to you as your work was to me, is on the way to you. I am pleased to accept your advance notice of arrival for Christmas and hope that no untoward disturbance will interfere with it. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday fit together well this time; that gives a more compact holiday than usual.
Just bring along everything that you have in mind; we will find time for it. You know that the children are very much looking forward to your visit.
Technique will probably not be quite what you expect. Thirty-four pages have been done up till now, and by Christmas we won't have more than forty or fifty, which you can then read here in order to tell me your impression of them. I hardly get to work, and right now I am not very capable of accomplishing anything. I will be able to share something theoretically significant with you on the paranoia question.
I hear that your other essay is presently being printed by Kunn.3 By Christmas I am hopeful of having the final clarification of an extremely severe case of Ψ impotence, which I have been treating unsuccessfully since spring and which is just now taking a surprising turn. So we will certainly not be at a loss for material.
But I still hope to hear from you before then.
Best regards,
Freud
