VII., Erzsébet-körút 54
Dear Professor,
So, it has been decided: I am coming to Vienna at Christmas and am very much looking forward to it. It is self-explanatory that I will steal only as much of your valuable time as you have in excess.
Many thanks for the “Sexual Theories of Children.” In my most recent reading I have again learned a great deal about this. In so doing it occurred
to me that I ought to go through the Interpretation of Dreams for a fourth time; when one understands something more, one gets much more from reading your works.
I call to your attention a typographical error in the article;1 in the note on p. 771, instead of 1909, it reads: 1809. This would not be very noteworthy, were it not for the fact that the same typographical error occurs in the second edition of the “Interpretation of Dreams,” on p. 181.2 It could be a case of a writing error on your part. Besides the strangeness of the number 1909, I presume that antedating (dating of a work that has not yet been printed) also plays a role in this. In both cases one is requested to compare (cf.) a certain literary source, although this comparison is impossible, for the time being. The “wrongness” [Verkehrtheit] of such a request is expressed in reversing [Verkehren] the digits of the year 1908. A determining factor could also be your dissatisfaction with the all-too-slow publication of the “Schriften”3 and especially of the “Jahrbuch.”
With cordial regards to you and your dear family.
