Vienna, May 20, 1910
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
The world has not ended here, either. I, too, still exist to alleviate your concerns; only I am still miserable in a bourgeois sort of way and am counting the days until July 14. There are still fifty-five. I hope to be compensated by a very nice vacation. Just study the timetables in your free time.
I am sorry that you are so lonely. It is soothing not to have so much interaction and communication; still it is something that one shouldn't give up. The lecture with the socialists1 must have been very interesting.
Otherwise, not much is happening. Hirschfeld sent his book about transvestites.2 He is finally becoming clear about the distinction between inversion of object and of person, i.e., homosexuality and feminine mixing.
I will order Anatole France today. I miss that sort of thing, since I can't produce anything now.
I request that you give me a word of confirmation of my having sent you Kleinpaul, the Essence of Witches,3 if it's true. Not for the sake of the book itself!
Many thanks.
Yours,
Freud
