Dear friend,
I just received the enclosed very interesting letter from Brill.1 So I hope to see you now in June in Vienna, and I leave it to you to sound out Brill
regarding the trip. His participation will certainly not be very probable by virtue of this visit. I acknowledge your intensive efforts to create the Budapest group, but I think you have made things too difficult for yourself with the lectures three times a week from nine to eleven. Think about the fact that you don't intend to go on vacation until September, and a hot summer lies ahead.
Jung is still having difficulties in Zurich that he has not mastered. The group is rudimentary, and the Korrespondenzblatt2 is being delayed. But these are now essentially his problems. How necessary the founding of the Zentralblatt was is being proved by the practice of Alzheimer's3 of dismissing as unscientific works that are scientific in our sense.
Two interesting visitors recently. On May 28 Friedländer4 (!), who was with me from nine in the evening until one o'clock in the morning, and yesterday Ossipow5 from Moscow. I will put off the description of Friedländer until I can give one orally; it was a pleasure for me to see what a liar, rogue, and ignoramus he is (no discretion necessary). I treated him very badly. The Russian is a magnificent chap, clear head, an adherent of honest conviction; he will be a good acquisition. He will translate the Worcester ΨA into Russian.
After two bad weeks I decided to seek medical treament, and since then I also feel much better. It is surely only a colitis without involvement of the appendix. I am on a diet, use a hot water bottle, etc. You see, I don't want to lay on you the burden of having to spend your vacation with an invalid.
This morning my wife and Sophie returned from Karlsbad. In June, part of the family is going to Bistrai to see Jekels,6 where I will follow on July 14. We won't go to Noordwijk until August 1.
