VII., Erzsébet-körút 54
Dear Professor,
A gentleman who recently made the trip Bremen-Antwerp-Gibraltar-Genoa gave me the enclosed brochure.
From the also enclosed official schedule of North German Lloyd you see (from the line underlined in blue) the timetable of the ship that is right for us. The ship is supposed to be large and comfortable (it goes to Yokohama), the service excellent.
We can perhaps get a ticket only as far as Gibraltar, where we would arrive on September 3. There we could wait for the North German Lloyd steamer “Berlin,” which goes to America and arrives punctually on September 4, and then we could go directly to Naples, where we would arrive on September 7. That would mean gaining two days for Sicily and sparing us the superfluous trip to Genoa and back. There is always enough room on the “Berlin.” On the other hand, many Englishmen travel to the Orient (Egypt, India) with the German postal service steamer, so one has to make timely reservations. The best are (naturally) the upper-deck cabins; the middle-deck cabins are good—but the ones on the lower deck are bad. One should (according to my reliable source) ask for cabins with windows opening directly on the sea.
That is what I wanted to bring to your attention and will be able to share with you in all haste.
Best regards,
Ferenczi
