IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
I just read Maeder,1 whom I find quite far advanced. His first case bears some similarity to Schreber. His comment about the paranoiac's understanding of symbols stimulates me to ask you to get serious about exploiting your patient as a symbol sleuth and then venture to make that public. Perhaps you should test Stekel's expected new symbols2 in this manner. Or my “rescue” and the “necktie.”3
Today Mr. Holmos was here with his deaf-mute wife. I naturally sent him back to you energetically. I ask you not to give credence to his stupid objection that ten crowns is too much for him; that is, if he comes again, which one can never know, of course.
From tomorrow on I will be fully booked up, but with patients who don't want to stay very long. I will lecture on the “two principles” at the Society
