Dear friend,
Your work was naturally submitted to the editorial board without censorship. Issue no. 3 of the Zentralblatt came out today. Schreber is finished, except for a few notes. Tough work. Mocking laughter or immortality or both;1 this step in psychiatry is probably the boldest that we have taken so far. The essay recently came into being, “fleeting improvised” [flüchtig hingemacht]2 during ten to eleven hours of analytic work, which has been especially unpleasant recently, but it does exhibit the nice parts known to you. On Sunday I will write down the brief formulations about the reality and pleasure ego.3 I will bring both to Jung in Munich. I still haven't received anything definite from Bleuler about our meeting. He will certainly cause problems at the eleventh hour.
Christmas will not be celebrated here on account of mourning.4
The next, the fourth, issue of the Zentralblatt will contain Putnam's nice lecture in Toronto.5 Things are going generally well in the literature. I have three volumes prepared for the Schriften zur angewandten Seelenkunde: Jones's Oedipus essay,6 a juridical work on patricide by a completely unknown writer from Zurich,7 and Abraham's study on Segantini,8 which was, of course, just announced.
My health and mood are not quite keeping pace with the pleasantness of these things. Not surprising. If only one didn't have to get rich!
I have now overcome Fliess, which you were so curious about. Adler is a little Fliess redivivus, just as paranoid. Stekel, his appendage, is at least called Wilhelm.
I send cordial regards and await your response to my suggestion concerning the publication of thought induction.
Yours,
Freud
