Vienna, May 2, 1911
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Thanks for your interesting letter. Erythrophobia is quite transparent, but it is particularly difficult to cure. Perhaps the difficulty lies precisely in the transference.
I have had very good times since Bolzano, also some relief in my practice. Just today I had my first spell of tiredness, to which you owe this letter. You see, I have been working in my good evenings: the second edition of the “Dream” for Bergmann1 and the little folkloristic thing with Oppenheim2 (not the one from Berlin).3 Now, writing the program for the Australian Congress will occupy me this month.
Rank returned from Greece sunburned and happy, and he is now energetically advancing the Interpretation of Dreams. The Jahrbuch is going quite slowly. From a Dutch warship in Patang4 I recently received an enthusiastic letter from a Dr. v. Römer,5 who wants to come to Vienna in October. You will recognize the name from a few good papers in Hirschfeld's Jahrbuch für sexuelle Zwischenstufen.
Dr. Drosnes6 from Odessa arrived today and reports that he will form the first Russian group in the fall with two Muscovites—Ossipow7 and Wirnbow (?).8 From Jung, who was in Stuttgart, I am expecting news any day now about the congress there,9 which will hardly have yielded anything special.
A number of things have also happened here. Stekel has come forward and concluded a separate peace; he assures me that his association with Adler at the Zentralblatt has ended. I must therefore keep him, for manifold personal reasons and because it is incalculable what kind of trouble he will cause if we kick him out. He is also basically good-natured. I read aloud the critique of his dream book, with which you are acquainted, at the last session, and he claimed—it had rained lightly.10 Nothing has changed with the other one, and there I am waiting for an excuse to ship him out—if he gives me that excuse.
So, we really rented a place from Hofer in Upper Bolzano. I plan to finish
