Dear Professor!
Among some old notes I found the following little write-up about an interesting case of ambitendency in a 2 1/2-year-old boy.
The little boy had the remarkable habit of continuing to do things that were forbidden him, but always adding: “One is not allowed!” [Man darf nicht] (e.g., He puts something dirty into his mouth and says: “One is not allowed.” (“Nem szabad!”)2) etc.
The analogy with manifest ambitendency in savages is striking.
Kind regards.
Yours,
Ferenczi
