Vienna, November 3, 1912
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Elma should certainly come and will be sure of a friendly reception, now more than before. Mo., Wed., Fri., 3-4 o'clock.
Still not much new from the theater of war. Reiss has requested a few issues of the Zentralblatt before he notifies us of his decision. Heller is very eagerly courting the unborn child and promises to become a good foster father to it. I will not bring him in before Reiss and then Deuticke have been dispensed with.
Stekel has resigned from the Society. He will probably seek admittance in Munich.
I am working further on Moses, of whom there is also a plaster cast here. Jones has sent me photos of statues by Donatello from Florence which have shattered my conception somewhat.1
I am suffocating in work.
Kind regards for you and Frau G.
Yours,
Freud
These photographs “opened the possibility of the reason for the pose being a purely artistic one without any special ideational significance” (Jones II, 365).
