Dear friend,
I would like to suggest a correction to your essay,1 which seems to me to be the best and most significant one that you have contributed to ΨA: In your sensitive discussion about the choice of neurosis (14) you make the content of the neurosis dependent on the phase of development of the
libido. Can one say that? Is it really the content? But it is certainly the kind of erotism, if that is what you mean.
Then in the next sentence: It is conceivable that the phases of sexual development are inextricably associated with those of ego development—I think the opposite is more probable, the displacement of the phases toward one another, which would be a good reason for variations and dispositions. The whole thing should be more cautious.
On the top of 15, instead of “F's statement” it should probably read “remark.”2
Hearty congratulations.
Yours,
Freud
