IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
The need for immediate action in matters of the Association has already subsided in Rank and Sachs, and I think that you, too, will not be closed to the arguments from the state of affairs and will wait and see whether the occasion for further steps comes from Zurich and whether our resignation can be avoided. When I think of the shabby behavior of so many people in the action against Stekel, I become wary of the magic of my name and would not like to put it to the test again. The whole action will, incidentally, remain completely in the hands of the Committee.
So, the Jahrbuch is ours. Deuticke has become aware of his hastiness and has definitively come to terms with me. I think we should put out the volume for July 1, the time when Jung's would have been published. Nothing has been settled with him regarding details, e.g., the one-time publication. We will negotiate that on the evening of the 19th. It is an opportunity to put all our forces into action. Fate evidently intends to squeeze us dry, as long as we can still give something of ourselves.
I intend to contribute Narcissism and, in addition, a history of ΨA with frank criticism of Adler and Jung.1 We still won't give up the idea of our supplements because of this.
The matter with Kraus-Brugsch was favorably decided on the same day. I won't write hysteria and obsession for the compilation, but rather a “Psychoanalytic Presentation of the Neuroses” of equal or larger scope.2
At present everything has actually been barricaded for me as well as for Rank by the disgusting preparations for the fourth edition of the Interpretation of Dreams. Reading through all that jumble is a harsh punishment.
I am going to Hamburg to see Sophie over Christmas and will spend half a day in Berlin with Abraham on the way back.
I greet you cordially and am very curious about your presentation on the 19th of the month, to which I brought forth something of a prelude in my lecture yesterd
