Dear Professor,
I fear that I will not be able to visit on Sunday and partake of your Sunday meal because on Saturday and Sunday(once each day) I will have to undergo smaller interventions in my much-abused organ of scent. But perhaps I will be sufficiently restored on Sunday evening that I will be able to chat with you for a few hours. I am not considering returning until Monday afternoon—I hope as a healthy person.
My practice is going well. I am fully booked. I just (three days ago) began the analysis of a typical masochist, a very intelligent and worthy man (lawyer), who came to me indirectly on your advice. A lady (young widow), who loves him and whom he also would like to love, once went to you for advice, and you referred the patient to me.—(The lady knew only about his impotence, not about his masochism.)
It is strange how different the complaints and case histories of patients sound according to whether one has been oriented to the situations beforehand
