Vienna, February 23, 1914
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Thanks for your notes, which, in addition to those still to be expected, will be taken into consideration. Perhaps we still have an opportunity to deal with them by word of mouth before we go to press. Now the manuscript will probably soon go to Berlin. It will be the first to be typeset for the Jahrbuch.
I completely confirm your judgment about Ophuijsen's critique. You will have a good rationalization for sending it back if you tell him that you want to put out the German translation yourself. But who will translate it? Heller already has his agreement for the German edition. Don't you want to come to an agreement with Heller, so that Jelgersma doesn't get the impression of an unplanned process?
Annerl is better. She no longer has a fever and is very happy to be able to travel with us. But before I write about rooms I suggest that you consider whether we shouldn't rather go to Brioni, which is new to us. We would have to make reservations there very early.
I am in the middle of Narcissism, in which my debt to you1 will become apparent. It is naturally going very hard, but it has to be done by Easter. The Moses evening ended without any real result. I wanted to hear a proper objection from the artist, but I couldn't get it out of him. It will probably come into being anyway.
Thank the first reader of the historical contribution in my name for her interest and applause! How is she?
Kind regards,
Freud
P.S. Enclosed a letter, critique by Ophuijsen and a letter from me to you.2
