Vienna, April 5, 1914
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
I wasn't able to get a sleeping car ticket anymore, so I will have to risk it as it is. I can't decide on the return trip now. I have canceled my patients until Wednesday morning, but I am prepared to leave Brioni perhaps Monday and skip work in Vienna on Tuesday. A lot has to do with how pleasant the stay is for us; making a previous commitment also has its disadvantages.
You will be surprised to hear that I am coming in the company of someone else. Annerl has whooping cough and naturally can't come; she has been very good and herself proposed that I take someone else along in her place. Rank has accepted and will therefore share our lodgings. We will be all Zeitschrift.
Since you left I have had a bad time, unmistakable overtiredness and intolerance to tobacco. I have also not worked on anything since.
These last few days were overshadowed by a small scare, which I hope will turn out to be nothing. The packet with the manuscripts for the Jahrbuch that Abraham sent to Hitschmann on the first of the month hasn't arrived yet. It is hard to think what will happen if it really gets lost. Let's hope it will come tomorrow,1 but it stands as a warning to have every manuscript copied.
Good news from Hamburg. My wife is coming at the end of the month, and Oli is leaving on Wednesday for his trip to Egypt.
Eder's translation of the little dream2 came into my hands yesterday. Otherwise, nothing new.
I will bring along a fountain pen with an attached card from Loe for you.
Kind regards and auf Wiedersehen.
