IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Pursuing my demonic plan further, I will not go into your autoanalytic communications, but instead accede to your last wishes concerning the Zeitschrift. That doesn't mean that I do not receive your continuing news about the inner theater of war with interest.
You will have learned about the external difficulties with Heller and at the press from the report by Sachs, who is really participating eagerly. I will act as if nothing of the kind existed. Sachs has agreed to send you all the available material.
We now have an essay by Stärcke (Everyday Life), which can come out in two parts,1 from which, however, I ask you to expunge the less splendid examples; and a first-rate paper by Abraham about the oral-cannibalistic preliminary stage of libido organization for no. 2.2
A book by Kaplan, “Ψ A Problems,”3 has been published, which I ask to be laid claim to by Deuticke in the name of the editorial board. It is praiseworthy in that it defends the correct Ψα conception against the dissidents in all matters in dispute; otherwise, it is certainly not profound or well organized. A little pamphlet from the Deutsch. med., no. 1, 1916, which will come along, may show you symptomatically what awaits us from the “great time.”6 No matter, an old Jew is tougher than a royal Prussian German. You, too, can gradually prepare yourself for this function.
Still no trace of my
