[to Gizella Pálos]
Vienna, April 30, 1917
IX., Berggasse 19
Dearest lady,
Our friend's faulty action [Fehlhandlung] was only one-sided. I didn't receive a letter for you, but have inferred with great satisfaction from both letters how things stand with you. May they soon lead to a desired end! I occasionaly have fits of lack of desire for life, and relief at the idea of an end to this difficult existence, and then it occurs to me with a heavy heart to know that my friend is so unprovided for.
I finally gave up the idea of the lecture, basically out of a lack of good mood and, in addition, out of motives of mistrust toward the organizers. So I must hope to see you again on another occasion.
With my very best regards,
Yours truly,
Freud
