Csorbató, August 8, 1917
Dear friend,
Regarding the continuing effect of your stay, you will learn here what has further taken place in Csorbató and environs. First came chocolate and Vaseline (rather, powder) from you from Tátrafüred, then a beef salami from
your home town, and today a box with fifty cigars from Kotaj! Varyas1 was here in the meantime and brought eggs, butter, some flour, and smoked sheep cheese. An anonymous woman left behind Primsen cheese and butter; she turned out to be Frau Lévy (which is supposed to remain a secret). Yesterday I was in Tatra-Lomnicz with my wife, in order to say goodbye to Frau G. and to complete the secret conversation with Frau Lévy. Varyas has motivated me to examine the woods near him for mushrooms, and I would have done it today already if chance had not intervened.
Heller has also brought good news about himself, for a change. The Dutch translation of the Lectures5 is supposed to bring us about 1,700 crowns, which is the result of a terrible exchange rate for the Dutch gulden.
Frau Grete6 is standing very obediently by us. The weather has really gotten much worse since your (or Sachs's)
