Vienna, September 10, 1917
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Enclosed two pictures, at the taking of which you were present and a participant.1 The friendlier one is meant for Frau G.
I haven't heard anything from you for a long time. During the first week in Vienna2 I have begun to work and also delivered a little thing (“From Dichtung und Wahrheit”)3 to Sachs. I am thinking of going on with my work because I don't know what else to do with myself. Two patients have returned, four more are expected at the beginning of October. Health quite uneven. He who has a talent for hypochondria can write all kinds of verses to it.
Ernst is here in the hospital with a diagnosis of ulcus duodeni and comes home often. He doesn't look particularly well, is trying to get a longer leave. Martin at the Isonzo, Oli still in Krems.
Weather is hot, hard to bear. Intestinal infections are kicking up everywhere.
In expectation of good news from you,
Cordially,
Freud
