Budapest, December 6, 1918
Dear Professor,
I, too, want to introduce the system of replying immediately.—To be sure, I have nothing special to report, except, perhaps, that I am now correcting the reprints of your “Five Lectures” (3rd edition) and “On Dreams” (2nd edition).1 My three collections have also been reprinted,2 and two new volumes are in press, in one, only the essays on hysteria and pathoneuroses have been collected, and in the other, all the other “short
writings.” If our Ψα Verlag should come into being, then I would offer to have it publish the former (hysteria + pathoneuroses).3
You have been suffciently oriented by Rank about the events in Budapest. Yesterday I was at Béla Lévy's,4 where I met Frau Kata, who informed me about the safe arrival of Rank along with wife and provisions. Too bad we can't send a courier every day!
The chances for the “academic psychoanalysis” are changing a great deal; the latest reports don't sound unfavorable. The opposition already emerged in the person of a young Jewish pathological anatomist Goldzieher, nephew of the well-known orientalist,5 who is, incidentally, also an opponent. Only if the government imposes Ψα. (like the right to vote) does it have any prospect of getting into the university.—
Frau Gizella is taking a lot of trouble with her household. Various Societal and social responsibilities now often prevent me from spending evenings with her.—The decision in the divorce proceeding will supposedly be handed down around the middle of December. The marriage can follow it immediately—even though there is still no place to stay.
I don't worry much about Martin's whereabouts; I am convinced that we will soon see him hale and hearty again.—
What do you hear from Ernst? and Eitingon?
Storfer popped up here a few days ago.6 He came from the French front, is still totally a soldier and can't get his bearings in the revolutionary disorder. He remained true to Ψα.
