Vienna, October 13, 1921
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
Only two weeks have really passed since we so unceremoniously took leave of each other. I didn't get to see your wife at all.
On September 30 in Vienna, I found all the newly announced and several of the former patients, and after failed attempts to shove one or the other off onto you or to Rank, I had to begin with ten people on October 3. In order not to touch Sunday, I had to limit each individual to five hours a week1 and to manufacture a very artificial distribution of hours. None of them is actually very strenuous, but it comes to a total of nine hours a day without a break, and it is quite out of the question for me to get to anything else in the evening. The consequence is, to be sure, that I am swimming in crowns, but the wealth is essentially negative; it consists in the fact that I don't suffer like the others under the pressure of the tremedous price increases.
