Vienna, November 6, 19211
Dear friend,
Traffic has been restored. We miss greatly your Rundbrief2 and personal reports about how you are. Much activity here because of the foreigners. The members of the Society are giving courses for the Americans and are thus disrupting them in their enjoyment of the city of Vienna. We are awaiting Frau Lou, who has announced herself for the 8th of the month.3 The Verlag still has no accommodations, and is for that reason very inhibited.
How far behind us lies Hildesheim and Schierke.
Kind regards to you and Frau G.
Yours,
Freud
Postcard.
See Ferenczi's Rundbrief of November 3 (which Freud evidently had not yet received): “I didn't want to write until I could convince myself of the regularity of the mails outside the country … The Budapest letter of October 21 fell by the wayside” (Butler Library).
Andreas-Salomé came on November 9 (Freud to Eitingon, November 11, 1921, Sigmund Freud Copyrights) and stayed until December 20 (Freud to Ernst Freud, December 20, 1921, Library of Congress). “She was a charming guest as well as altogether an outstanding woman. Anna worked with her analytically, paid visits to many interesting personalities, and benefited a great deal from being in her company. Mama took very good care of her; with nine hours of work I didn't have much time for her, but she behaved discreetly and unpretentiously” (Freud to Ernst Freud, December 20, 1921).
