Dear Professor,
The previous part of the summer has taken shape as a chronic psychoanalytic Congress. Following in your footsteps, a whole flock of professional comrades (Hitschmann, [Helene] Deutsch, also Bernfeld, passing through, then the Ranks and we) made a pilgrimage this season to this wonderfully situated nest; in addition, Abraham visited us here, further, we saw in his entourage the two Glovers,1 then Sachs and an Englishwoman (Dr. Cole),2 who came here in order to learn “active technique” from me, but instead of that had to experience a piece of normal analysis on her own person. To my astonishment, it turned out that my English is, indeed, up to the task of moving forward with this patient.
The interesting symbiotic relationship between nourishing patients and teaching physicians seems to be generally settling in. I, for example, am taking mine along to Baden-Baden.
Our stay here will last another week. We are leaving on the 24th, and from the 25th on our address will be the Groddecks' (Baden-Baden, Werder-strasse 14).
You will find out the results of our discussions about the Congress from Rank's Rundbrief.3 Nothing of my lecture4 is finished yet. I hope to find the leisure time necessary for it in Baden-Baden.
One of my wife's sisters and her husband (from Canada) stayed at Groddeck's for a few days, but fled from the somewhat violent “psychic massage.” On the other hand, Elma, who has been staying there for three weeks, seems to feel well with him.
Let's hope you recovered in Berchtesgaden from the stresses and strains
