Salzberg, August 24, 1922
Dear friend,
Although as a consequence of a severe misfortune in the family—Maus, whom you surely remember, poisoned herself with Veronal and died on the 18th;1 we don't know how my sister, a virtuosa of despair, is—I am not
very cheerful or eager to write, but I do want to send you a greeting at the Groddecks', whom I also ask you to greet for me.
I have been very happy about the intensification of your intimacy with Rank; it promises good things for the future. Lévy and Kata have been here since the day before yesterday, charming as ever. Deuticke has not notified me of any payment from Dick.
We are thinking of staying here as long as it goes.
Cordially, to you and Frau G.
Yours,
Freud
