Vienna, March 19, 1923
IX., Berggasse 19
Dear friend,
I request that you tell Dr. Feldmann that the only thing he can do as penance is to stay completely away from psychoanalysis, and that only under this condition will the secret be kept for the ψα circles.
Another execution took place more mildly. Dr. Reich admitted his error without hesitation, confirmed that it happened four years ago, before he was a member, and since he is otherwise diligent, eager, and respectable, I absolved him from the youthful prank.1—
Glad to hear you are better, I can't dispense with the catarrhs and neuralgias lately; it's supposed to be the modern form of influenzal infection. I am also correspondingly tired.
Where do you want to go now? The world has been divided up into individual cells from which there is hardly any exit, spring is far away, the Adriatic is distant, and Italian or Slovenian-Croatian. You are always welcome with me and Rank in Vienna.
In the last weeks I was pleased about a charming letter and book dedication by Romain Rolland.2 Otherwise, little is happening. Oli's wedding depends on whether he can find two furnished rooms in Duisberg, where he is now. We were not allowed to go to Berlin for the celebration. Anna is going to Göttingen, to Lou's, for Easter week.
With kind regards to you and Frau Gisela.
Yours,
Freud
