Dear Professor,
Since in the meantime you have actually received from my letter to Rank the answer to some earlier questions [addressed] to me, I will omit going into them again and will only reflect on your last letter.
I must, unfortunately, concede that the situation is not a very hopeful one. If Rank has now gone so far that he was able to send you that letter, then he has certainly settled accounts with everything. In spite of this, I don't want to give up hope completely, and I wrote to Frau Beate (to Abbazia, unfortunately, without knowing her more definitive address)
