Dear Professor,
I acknowledge receipt, with thanks, of your last and next-to-last letter; the latter contains, among other things, your approval of my trip to America. The disappointment that some prophesy cannot occur, since I am going without any great expectations. What I want is solely to make certain connections which will ensure future clientele, at least for a few years. According to all expectations, I should achieve this quite modest goal; my appointment calendar in New York is already overbooked, so that I can make a certain choice.—I have also already written to Brill, who replied to me amicably but with the remark that he is “pleased that I am also giving lectures and am not only coming on account of the patients.” It didn't occur to him that I could also instruct the members of the group.
