Dear Professor,
The talk about the organic conditions which threaten to make me prematurely senile has obviously shaken me up. On the one hand, I decided to try it again with Lajos Lévy. He advised controlling intestinal function by means of magnesia and belladonna, but is decidedly opposed to Karlsbad and Marienbad. Up to now, a moderate improvement can be noted through the medication—but I have to wait and see how long it persists.—A second source of the disturbance is of a neurotic nature and is composed of current and infantile things.
The subjective ailments abate immediately when I can sleep properly, so that I am occasionally my old (i.e., young) self again, grasping things quickly, full of ideas, etc. So, everything doesn't seem to be lost yet. (N.B.: the ideas are connected to ego psychology; they are very useful to me in my cases. Perhaps something will come out of them sometime!)
This evening I am going to Lovrana (Hotel Excelsior) for a week with my wife (for a belated Easter vacation). We will be home again next Monday.
Perhaps I will use the (let's hope, not all too windy) time on the Adriatic to bring to paper thoughts that are hovering around me but are for the moment too unclear to be shared.
I was pleased to see you again in good health. Let us hope it stays that way until you are again at your Semmering—and there I am sure of the matter.
Kindest regards to everyone.
Yours,
