Vienna, January 11, 1933
IX., Berggasse 191
Dear friend,
I thank you and your dear wife cordially for the New Year's greeting, which arrived today. Not necessary to say that we all completely return your good wishes. You write about our being on good terms, which has lasted for many years. I think it was more than that, rather an intimate community of life, feeling, and interest. When I have to conjure this up from memory today, then what remains to me as consolation is only the certainty that I have contributed especially little to this change. Some psychological misfortune or other has brought it about in you. Nonetheless, we are happy about the restoration of your health, a precious piece of the more beautiful past.
Always yours,
Freuds
