[R.M.S. Lusitania]1
Dear Professor Freud,
Thank you very much for your letter. I shall look forward to the great pleasure of seeing you about the 11th or 12th. I think you misunderstand my letter a little.2 The only impulsive thing about my move was the sudden desire to take a holiday—really largely determined by hearing you would be at Noordwijk. I sail back to Canada on the 20th. Nothing is farther from my thoughts than to leave Toronto, even for the States, unless for the best of reasons and only if I got a satisfactory position.
Brussels is terribly crowded. We spend the rest of the week touring the Ardennes, Liège etc.; and return on Sunday.
This morning in the discussion I learnt that “Narcolepsy” is due to auto-intoxication favoured by auto-suggestion.3 It is a useful piece of knowledge!
Yours ever sincerely
Ernest Jones.
Letterhead is crossed out in the original.
Freud's letter in response to Jones's previous letter is missing.
