Dear Professor Freud,
Many thanks for your letter that came this morning. With regard to the Hamlet I had already written to you, after hearing from Tausig, to say that it could only be a great pleasure to me that you would think it worth publishing in the Schriften series. I had not arranged anything financially with Tausig, not knowing under what conditions he would publish it, but I will write to tell him to keep any fee that Deuticke may pay; it must have been a trouble to translate it. Perhaps Deuticke will let me have a few copies that I could send to friends.
It is very sad about Bleuler, and I am sure we all hope it will come right. I suppose his personal complexes are reinforced by his jealousy of Jung, and by his desire to be accepted in the respectable circle of German psychiatrists. Maeder tells me that he (B.) is just publishing a book;1 do you know about it? It seems unavoidable that there will be a fringe of half-hearted supporters, and it is difficult to know what attitude to adopt towards them. In our new Ortsverein Hoch wants to accept as members all those who have shown the slightest interest in ΨA, even when they know nothing of it. Brill and I are more inclined to be eclectic, but we must take in some like Meyer, Coriat and Onuf.2 We have two members in India, one, Berkeley-Hill whom I mentioned to you, and Colonel Sutherland who writes in Krauss' Anthropophyteia under the pseudonym of Dr. S. of S..3 Hill sent me the first ψα performed on an Indian, which the patient proudly wants to have published, but it is much too elementary—little more than anamnesis.
Putnam's Washington paper has just been published in the Nov. no. of the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease,4 and no doubt he will send you a reprint. The discussion on it was published in the Oct. no., and I am sending you a copy of it.5 I also send a short acco
