Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Dr. Jones,
There is your working fit again. I like it better than the foregoing negative one.
Before I go on answering your interesting questions I will let you know, that the Traumdeutung is out and will go off to America in a few days (my lady-secretary being absent just now). I am impatiently waiting for the 8th of July to leave Vienna and make off for Karlsbad. You may go on using my Vienna address, all letters are forwarded by the Vienna post office.
I have sent your contributions to Stekel, who is sticking to my side in this crisis in a way worth of praise and remembrance. I want him to be the sole editor of the Zentralblatt, but Adler is not yet thrown out; he and his company (some 6-7 members of the Verein) behave in a very malicious manner. Collect whatever you can and send it to us. I dont think we will have to refuse anything you send. As for Oedipus, you will have learned since, that Adler considers the whole of the complex as a sham-construction, fabricated in order to get afraid by one's sexual appetites. He (A. not Hamlet) is not very far from Paranoia, his distortions are gorgeous.
Why did I call Hill—Hunt? I do not know. I shall subject the matter to analysis one of these days. In first thoughts I find some relation to Stanley Hall.
As for the snake I agree with you that it is no clear case. There is no fundamental opposition between us on this point. The infantile theory attributing the same organ to both sexes, there is a distinct tendency to use the symbols in a bisexual sense,—though it is not regularly [executed]1 realized.
In the “Alltagsleben” you are quite right as regards p. 105 (unbeabsichtigt), but not so in the note p. 101, as you did expect yourself.2 I mentioned the relation to the “Gegensinn” in a few words Jahrbuch 184 (note).3
