My dear Jones,
I have been so deeply emotioned by your last letter announcing the dedication of your book that I resolved to wait for its material appearance to react by a letter of pride and friendship. But it has not yet come yet, instead of the book came your second letter, and as you have a right to be answered promptly on actual events I see I must do it and owing to want of time and intensity of stress restrain myself to the most urgent points instead of entering into all the diversity of your interesting conversation.
As for your wife: We had an excellent time and have brought the morphia to half the dose (3 + 3). I know that she is showing up before me so that I see her better than you would find her, yet I am sure I was not mistaken. Analysis progressing satisfactorily, I could draw the outlines of her very interesting lifestory and make her understand some of the turning-points in it. übertragung complete and no difficulty to make her agree to its meaning, all the great qualities of her character and the liberty of her thinking helping me therein. The only dark point in my opinion, that she had not resistance enough and felt too comfortably. When the day before yesterday (6/7th night) an attack of pain made its appearance and sad thoughts came up with it, I meant it to be a progress and entering into a new and more fruitful phase of the treatment. Yet there is a drawback to the glory.
