Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
My dear Jones,
I must answer your letter at once, it made me so glad. Die Rechnung stimmt.1 It shows as I expected it would. The attack of your wife is in fact the reverse of her tender affection, you remember she recovered completely after that letter of “abreaction”. As regards the contents of that [those] complaints the most striking and least justified point is my not believing her and mistrusting her statements, as it can only find a rationalisation in my doubt expressed to her whether her pains are from the kidney or from the soul. But you may take into account, what she confessed yesterday, that she was a big liar when a child. I am sure the profit of that first attack would have been greater if I had shut out the organic explanation with as much decision as I will be able to do at the next. So it is allright and her resistance can be directed to serve the treatment, what is the great aim of our technics.
Many thanks for your permissions in the Stekel affair. I am sorry to say that he is lying in a desperate shameless way about the causes of the dissension, writing to Zürich, that I wanted the comité to stifle the liberty of his and their opinions and not mentioning the Tausk-question and his assertion the Zentralblatt was his own property at all.2 But the leading Zürich men behave nicely (Maeder, Riklin) and it is very likely that the “Internationale Zeitschrift für Ψ A” can be proclaimed the official organ even before it appears. If you will use your influence to this direction with them it may help a good deal. Riklin proposes a council of the Zentrale and the foremen at Munich for the complete acquittal of the matter. I think it should be done.
