1 January 1913
Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
My dear Jones,
Only a few lines to give you a happy new year and some notes about your wife before we meet again.
She continues allright. Lina had a second attack of pains, she nursing her. The nicest case of “Übertragung” I ever saw. The girl takes upon her the kidney stones, which have left the mistress. Morphia down to 1/5. Her difficulty in letter writing is perhaps related to resistance against treatment
but more distinctly to that secret aversion against you (the reversal of that glorious medal of love), which treatment will bring to light as soon as you and morphia will have departed.
As for Jung I am resolved to give up private relations with him. His friendship is not worth the ink, and we know by his own words that he always feels hampered by kind relations to men. I want him to go his way and have no need of his companionship myself. But as long as it shows possible I want to keep up the common interests of Verein and journals.
The same politics let us follow with every other man in the circle, ready to receive them after they are sent back by him as will invariably be the case.
I hope to give the lecture on “Animism” while you are here, 15th of January.1
Eder has arrived, he wanted to get analyzed by me for three weeks. As I couldn't find the time I handed him over to Tausk. Maybe he is offended but I am overcharged and tired of sacrifices. He shows some reserve about the now ardent matter of Jung's.
Ferenczi seems to improve in health.
