Dear Professor Freud,
The news, which may be false, comes here today that Austria has declared war, and on all sides there are rumours and preparations of a general Armageddon. I naturally wonder how this may affect your sons, Rank, etc., and hope for the best. In any emergency if there is need for your daughter to rejoin you, I could of course act as escort, and you would not hesitate to let me know (or anything else I can do).
I had already fully appreciated what you write about her. She has a beautiful character and will surely be a remarkable woman later on, provided that her sexual repression does not injure her. She is of course tremendously bound to you, and it is one of those rare cases where the actual father corresponds to the father-imago.
