Dear Dr. Jones,
Your letter arrived right on Christmas Eve, and, like your earlier attempts to maintain contact, pleased and touched me very much. Through the kindness of Dr. van Emden, I answered you repeatedly, and have had no proof as yet that you received my replies. But if you do not get my replies, how can I let you know that it is not my fault?
