69 Portland Court, London
Dear Professor,
I trust you had a satisfactory holiday in Bad Gastein, and wherever else you went to. I also managed to get three weeks, and went for a motor tour round (and up) the Welsh mountains. I have never seen so much of my own country and of England as in the last two years—a Nebengewinn des Krieges.1
Loe and Herbert are, I hear, well, but I have only seen her once this year. For a few months she had external difficulties (all her teeth were gradually extracted, etc.), and the effect on Herbert's health of her not seeing me and then of her visit to me made it plain that his neurosis centered round jealousy of me. Whereupon she naturally decided never to see me again. It was a blow to me and I deeply regret the necessity for it, but che sara sara.
Through an annoying mistake Constance Long (a Jungite) is to write the section on ψα for a huge new Encyclopedia of Education; I am to write on Psychotherapy and on Dream Analysis, and hope to discredit her successfully.2 I give a few lectures, but write very little as the stimulus is missing now that I have no audience—I hope only a temporary inhibition. The last number of the Zeitschrift that I saw was of January 1915, and I cannot find out the reason of the difficulty, for I get all the German periodicals. Will you please tell me the title and publisher of your book?3 I have just finished the index and last proofs of Ferenczi's book, which should appear before the end of the year. I am also engaged on a collection of Rank's dream papers.4
Most Sundays I go to my country cottage, which is very pleasant; the rheumatism is much better. Morton Prince was in England recently. I have not heard from Putnam for some months, and only indirectly from Brill.
I have been three years in England now, and am glad to be able to reassure you finally about any fears you may have had concerning my sexual life. I am a “reformed character”, as they say. Hoch die ψα.5
With kindest regards
Yours alwa
