6 March 1917
Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
Nice to have news of you again, and even nicer that it is such good news! I will inform Rank of your friendly offer; after a long interval I hope to see him in the next few days.
We are still alive and in decent condition. We are keeping up the Society and the journals as well as can be done. During this time Sachs has been a faithful helpmate, whose worth I cannot praise highly enough. Sadly, Ferenczi is ill with M. Basedowii, although not in a severe form, and is recuperating on the Semmering. From friends in America I hear almost nothing. I believe that the Psychoanalytic Review is going to publish several of my works, probably translated by Brill after all.1 There is no communication with the Swiss, only the occasional letter from Pfister.
Please assure Herbert and Loe Jones that even five more years of war will not change our feelings for them.
As soon as travel is possible again, we—the Committee—must meet. I am also getting old and long for each of them. I am particularly pleased to know that your future is so well assured, and I also hope to hear one day that you have been able to find what is still missing.
With cordial greetings
Yours
Freud
