7 December 1918
111 Harley Street, London
Dear Professor,
At last we are allowed to communicate freely again, and I hope it will not be long before we meet. I trust it will be possible for you to come here to stay for a while next Spring, and I hear also that Loe is counting on it. Then we must make plans for an autumn congress for the reorganization of the Vereinigung. I think the time is ripe for an English journal, or edition of the Zeitschrift (not identical, of course) owned by the Vereinigung. There is so much to talk over.
You see I can look forward in life, although I have been through hell itself these last three months. It has been an indescribably terrible experience, signifying more even than a tremendous loss—owing to my inner psychical situation and the poignant circumstances of my wife's death. But I am surely winning through, and have learnt very much by it. Yesterday I read your paper on grief and melancholy,1 which made a great impression on me. Do you remember talking of it to me in Jan. 1914, and saying that would be our next advance? I have much analytic experience of it now, and I agree with all you say except one unimportant particular.
I would give so much for a letter from you.
Yours affectionately
Ernest Jones.
