1 September 1919
Badersee
Dear Jones,
Gladly taking up your hint1—I hasten to write to you from Oberholzer's address, as I do not know whether my last letter, sent to Wengen, reached
you there.2 At the same time, I received news that I can get Marks for my trip to Hamburg and am therefore only now in a position to give firm details about my plans. I also ask you to send word to Forsyth, who telegraphed me twice without my being able to reply (because I had not taken his address with me on the trip).
We are leaving here on 9/September, and I go to Hamburg via Munich, from where I travel back, so that I will cross the German border on 24/9 at the latest. I shall then be in Vienna on the 26th, as there are no express trains in Austria any more. I am sorry to detain you so long, but if I do not get to my children now, I do not know when I will. One should not postpone anything! And if this should result in a longer holiday for you, I can easily take the blame.
I am very glad to see you again. Five years is a terribly long time. Our poverty and inability to receive you and your companions honorably will not make us feel ashamed; we are not to blame for our condition and our cordiality remains unchanged. Give my regards also to Sachs, van Emden, and any of our friends that you meet.
To an early reunion
Yours
Freud
