Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
I hope1 you have seen Rank, so I can write a short letter feeling pretty tired.
Toni Freund is dying a slow and painful death in a sanatorium here. I go to have a look on him every day, but it is not merry.
Proceeding by word-association, the marriage of my son Martin took place Sunday 7th.2 In the next days the two other boys left home, for Berlin and Hamburg respectively. We are alone and feel lonely.
Dr. Bieber has arrived. He is justified in paying half a price as he is only half of an American. The other half a Hungarian Jew. A case complete in all points, it may take long time to influence him. Not very clever rather a young ass. I preferred Forsyth. Yet 5 Doll. are 750 K!!
Contributions to our journals are flowing in from all sides. The map was never so full, we will have to increase the size of the Zeitschrift. I am eager to know how far you have mastered your difficulties. I am nearly helpless and maimed when Rank is away. From Brill I got the translations of Leonardo, Wit and Totem.3 No letter. Excuse me saying that he is a crazy Jew (meschugge!).4 But did'nt you make us think that he had sent you the money collected?
Give my best thanks to your young wife for her charming letter of introduction. Tell her she is no looser by my not answering it directly in these weeks. The “Tagebuch eines halbwüchsigen Mädchens” just published by the Verlag might interest her too.5 It is long I have heard about her sister.6
Hoping you will soon write me again yours
as ever
