23 December 1919
Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
I will write you some lines only, I had postponed my answer until Rank's arrival, who was expected between the 20th and 22d. But he got into the period of suspended railway-Verkehr1 and cannot be here before the 29th or later. So I have to give you the few answers you require.
I agree with the date and locality of the Congress as you propose it but I cannot give you the assurance that travelling to Holland will be possible for any one of us as a technical and a monetary problem.
I thank you sincerely for sending Dr. Bieber, who now is tormenting me for a second hour daily which he sha'nt get. Subsistance would be warranted, if I had 3 or 4 strangers regularly. But I would not [for sti]2 stir for the Palestine cyclothymia however life is bad with us. It is very kind indeed of Loe to offer me her brother's house, yet I intend to stay on my post as long as I reasonably can.
Freund is slowly getting estranged to his former being and interests, the bodily dissolution is tardy, but not doubtful.
In your remarks on Rank I noticed a harshness which reminded me of a similar mood regarding Abraham. You used kinder language even during the war. I hope nothing is wrong between you and ours.
I am anxious to hear the news Rank will bring about the English Journal. No letter from Brill.
Take my best wishes for you and your young wife for 1920 and for ever.
