Vienna, IX. Berggasse 19
Dear Jones,
I cannot put up writing you. There is a rumour started by Mrs. Rickman that you have become father to a son, but we think it untimely and suspect this son to be an incarnation of the child given to the analyst by his patient. We ought to have heard about it from yourself.
I saw Mr. Pastor today and thank you very warmly for the appropriate Xmas present, which I am sorry I did not return, this time not more than former ones.
I appreciate all your difficulties in the translation business and will be glad to send you over Str.[achey] and R.[ickman] as helpmates, as soon as their analysis is finished, that is to say, not very soon. But if an elegant English style means so much to you too, you will have to read German letters in our private correspondence.
I am ready to read your review on Kempf's work and trust I know in what sense you call it “imposing”.
On looking through the first two volumes of the Sammlung I could not always decide what articles are to be judged as medical or non-medical ones. I will thank you for assigning them to me by name or number. Anna is willing to try at them with the help of Rickman or he with her help. Hiller will be too glad to find himself substituted, as he is very busy here.
Owing to your suggestion I am prepared to take 3 guineas or even 5 for my hours but I expect I will find none to give them.
The Americans are now doing much better, they may be good for something.
I hope you too had a good time in the holidays.
