Letter from Sigmund Freud to Ernest Jones, December 29, 1921

Dear Jones,

I hope this letter will arrive in time to bring you my kindest wishes for your and your dear wife's welfare in the new year 1922, which is expected to give you the son anticipated by good Mrs. Rickman.

I start the new era by two requests, a) The danger of confiscation of good money has now become imminent with us. I forbade Lissa & Kann to send me any reports of my accounts and so I will be in the dark, whether something has arrived or not. There are only two posts I expect in these days, one of Fl. 25 from a Dutch Society for selling the translation of Massenψ (which is overdue), and a sum of 1100 French Francs from Payot for some new purchases (Alltag, Massenψ, Totem),1 this latter just sent off by him. Will you be so kind as to add a note on this matter to the Rundbrief, after you have got L & K's report of the second post's arrival?

b) The “5 Lectures on ΨA” have now appeared in a new, the 6th edition (unchanged). They have been translated into 7 languages,2 but the English edition is not accessible as it appeared in the American Journal of Psychology, April 1910 and was not given out separately. It was reproduced in “Lectures and Addresses in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of Clark University”, Worcester 19103 and is still buried there. Do you think, it can be rescued from there and is it worth while to try?

I am waiting for Abraham who is to come on Jany 3d and for Ferenczi who is to substitute him in our house on the 5th.
